Bob Nalbandian started his career in the music business at the age of 18, as founder/publisher of the seminal heavy metal fanzine The Headbanger, a nationally distributed Xeroxed fanzine which featured articles and interviews of local and international heavy metal bands, including the very first profiles of then-unsigned LA bands Metallica, Slayer & Megadeth.
In fact, he is officially credited for writing the first ever article on Metallica in the Time-Warner book Metallica Unbound.
Throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, Nalbandian was a contributing editor to several well-known international music publications including; Creem, Music Connection, Hit Parader, BAM, Foundations, Loud, Metal Rendezvous, New Rave, BURRN! (Japan), Rock Hard (Germany), and Fachblatt (Germany).
In the early ‘90s, Bob Nalbandian piloted the solo career of guitarist Marty Friedman, consequently landing him in Megadeth. Soon after, he headed the west coast office of Roadrunner Records. Duties included west coast Director of Publicity, Radio and Retail promotion for Roadrunner and its affiliated labels.
He worked closely with many of the labels cutting-edge artists at the time, including Sepultura, Type-O Negative, Last Crack, and Motorhead (re-issues). After Roadrunner, Nalbandian went on to Bizarre/Straight Records to assist president Herb Cohen.
Herb (who co-founded the label with Frank Zappa back in the late ‘60s) revamped the record label in the early ‘90s. Their roster specialized in diverse, seemingly "bizarre" [long before music was labeled alternative] artists such as Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Captain Beefheart, Tim Buckley, Lenny Bruce, Screaming Jay Hawkins and Tom Waits. Nalbandian's duties included Director of Press, A&R, Radio and Retail promotion for both catalog and current rock releases for the Rhino/WEA distributed label.
Throughout the years, Bob Nalbandian also managed and advised many rock bands, acquiring license/distribution deals with several international record companies such as; Century Media (Germany/US), Enigma/Restless (US), Roadrunner (Europe/Japan), JVC/Victor (Japan), Music For Nations (UK), Bandai/Apollon (Japan), Jigu (Korea), Polystar (Japan), Rising Sun (Germany), High Vaultage (Germany), and Dream Circle/Polydor (Germany), Reality/Sony (Europe).
Bob Nalbandian was also the publisher/editor of the nationally distributed music publication Shockwaves in the mid-‘90s (which featured a wide range of interviews from baseball all-star Mike Piazza to acclaimed musical artists Ozzy Osbourne, Ice-T, and Van Halen) and associate editor for the national men's magazines Platinum and Men's Perspective.
Nalbandian also co-authored the adult Sci-Fi comic book Adventures In Sirloin City (Hustler Comics/Flynt Publications) and the soon-to-be released rock photography book Power Surge. Bob Nalbandian also has vast experience in club promoting and booking.
He co-founded the heavy metal nightclub Black Lodge with partners Tobe Baad and Anthrax vocalist John Bush, which featured local and national metal bands and celebrity deejays. Currently, Nalbandian is a regional VP at HardRadio ( www.hardradio.com ), a top-rated Internet radio station where he is also the editor of Shockwaves Magazine On-line, which features interviews with some of the biggest performers in hard rock music.
Nalbandian continues to do independent publicity for various indi and major recording artists.
